For the seasoned bike rider choosing the right bike may be the single largest decision they make.
With the cost of a standard off-road bike being several thousand dollars, you can’t afford to make the wrong choice for your best riding experience.
With the Ridley Damocles you won’t have to worry with your purchase.
The Ridley Damocles first entered the market in 2004. With its entry into the realm of road biking, it introduced many unconventional innovations still in use today.
One such innovation was the introduction of a larger set of bearings. Today the Ridley Damocles still remains relatively unchanged.
When you begin to review the design of this bike what stands out is the carbon fiber frame, with aluminum vertical dropouts.
The Fork design is Ridley’s with the blades (straight) and crown also made of carbon fiber.
The Fulcrum Racing 5 wheelset will give you dynamic balancing and 2:1 aero spoke lacing, as well as a medium weight wheel.
The Michelin Lithion 2 tires meld into the wheelset with dimensions of 700 C by 23 mm putting you through the paces of every road.
Added into the Ridley Damocles are the front/rear derailleurs, mounts, and shifters of Shimano design for ease of shifting and stability of the chain during shifting.
The design of the Shimano derailleur will also last longer with less maintenance costs. If you plan for racing, this Shimano design brings the swift gear changes needed for those final sprints to the finish line.
Shimano is one name deeply associated with the Ridley Damocles. The crankset, chain rings, bottom brackets, and brake levers are all Shimano products.
The chain rings are 53 by 39 teeth and a crank arm length measuring 172.5 mm. The rear sprockets range 12 by 25 teeth. The Shimano components for the crankset mean crisper shifting and more efficient power transfer.
The Deda RHM01 handlebar is a medium range width measuring 42 cm. The Deda Zero 1 stem offers an angle of 6 degree and stem length of 110 mm.
Together these add up to a smoother, quicker turning and handling. The Bike Ribbon Cork bar tape gives added comfort.
The Ridley Damocles has a Shimano Ultegra chain and cassette. There is not much difference from the Shimano 105 (5700) design, however, you will prefer the lighter weight.
While the overall cost of the Ultegra is slightly more, the benefits will are worth it. These benefits are longevity, easier shifting, and better braking capability.
For added comfort during your ride, the Deda RS01 seatpost and the 4ZA alloy in the seat collar and saddle have been added.
As you maintain your ride, this combination will give you the solid platform to keep you powering your pedals for extended travel.
We don’t want the schematics of the Ridley Damocles to sell you on this bike. We want the added comfort, convenience, and power of this bike to be the reason why.
The long rides and smooth shifting will make this bike the ride of your lifetime. The 10 year warranty on frame and fork will help make the Ridley Damocles the last bike you’ll ever want.
